Black Friday

After a really long wait, Anurag Kashyap's offering Black Friday is going to release tomorrow. The movie is based on a book by the same name by Hussain Zaidi.

Black Friday must be one of those movies that must have been watched by a large number of people before its official release. I have read the book as well as seen the movie.

When my friend gave the CD of the movie to me to watch it, he had praised the movie but added as an afterthought that the movie is pro-Muslim. Having read the book and seen the movie, I can't say that the movie is pro-Muslim or pro-Hindu but the movie is pro-truth. The demolition of Babri Masjid, 92-93 riots and the blasts that followed are an integral part of a Mumbaikar who survived that period. It is to Mid-Day, Tariq Ansari, Arindam Mitra and Anurag's credit that they have managed to make a movie on such a sensitive subject.

Anurag is one of those jinxed directors who manages to make those movies which never get released. Hopefully, BF will break that jinx and the Indian audience will be able to see more of his works.

btw, Do watch the movie on the big screen. The characters have been excellently sketched and the parts have been played brilliantly by all the actors.

You can follow Anurag's blog at Passion For Cinema.

Cheers,
HP

I never knew there was a book too, do pass it to me if u have it. Abt the movie, got it on my PC long back, but couldn't create a mood to watch it. I guess i'll see it on the Big Screen.

There is one more movie tht caught heat like BF. Its called Parzania, its based on the Godhra issue, i guess. It's got Nasserudin Shah as lead.

Its high time ppl started facing the truth. Its really sad to see tht BF had to wait so long to get released....

hey..

i havent read teh book..
but i agree with you the film is pro truth..
have seen the documentary by Anand Patwardhan" In The Name Of god". it is based on the babri- masjid issue.

even the most pro- hindutva regime would agree that what happend there was based on the the selfishmotives of a handful few...the docu includes footage of advani standing on a jeep and instigating his "sainiks" while they were attacking teh mosque.

ll write on it in detail..
but "black Friday" has awakned what was dormant in us, and the factlies you cannot sleep in a deep slumber in such times.

given an opportunity this will happen again!!
