Quote of the Day

I always wondered as to why there is so much violence in this world. Why people keep fighting in the name of religion and such other things.
Today, I came across the below quote by Jimi Hendrix and that pretty much sums it all
"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know
peace."
Well, I dont wanna add anything more to this!

Peace to all!!!

Will Arsenal be the new champions?

This year's UEFA Champions League was quite interesting, to say the least. Definitely, there were no great matches as such. For me, most of the matches were either one-sided or it would seem that both the participating teams were just there to make the numbers. But, what interests me are the results. The results have been really interesting and barring Barca, no other team looked like they were playing Champions League. (pun intended)

But,I digress. Somehow, Arsenal managed to reach the semis playing their brand of bland football. When Pele was talking about the beautiful game, he sure never saw Arsenal playing. I agree that some of the new players like Fabregas and Reyes are exciting prospects. But, I never like the way Arsenal play. And don't get me started on Henry. I always believed that he never plays against big teams and I still stand by it. Maybe the opposing teams keep him on leash but great players always unleash themselves at the big stage. And that is the reason I don't think that Henry should be counted amongst the greats.

Again, I am moving from my first point. Thinking that Barca will reach the final, I would believe that Arsenal have a better chance of winning the Cup. Their defence is tight and if Campbell performs on the given day, I think they can keep a clean scoresheet. Now, it depends upon the strikers to score that one goal. And I think, that one goal will be enough.

And like last year, maybe the team placed fifth in the EPL would be crowned the European Champions.!!! Yeah, I know that theory sounds stupid but what the heck!

Waiting for the finals!!

Nice Quote :-)

Loved this quote by Dale Carnegie.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your
character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others
think you are.

Float Gaatha

Got the below lines from a fwd. Really, some of the lines are very much reflective of a person who is going through his bench phase or the float phase as we call it in our company. Wonder, where we keep floating!!

Humne socha shayad hum hi hain bench pe,
Par bench waalo ka to Kafila nikla,
Dil ne socha Shikayat kare senoirs se,
Par woh bhi bench wale nikla.

mail bheja original samaj ke
lekin woh bhi repost nikla
Original message bheja tha dost ne
magar usko bhejne wala bhi main hi nikla

socha thoda chat kar lu
magar doston ka status Away nikla
phir khayal aaya dormitory ka
jake dekha ,ek senior wahi se bahar nikla

mili kahi se ek link utilization check karne ki
magar non-utilization 100% nikla
Baat jab hui Appraisal ki
kya naseeb ,woh bhi mock nikla

Bulaya PM ne sabko meeting me
project aa raha hai sunkar mein boardroom ke bahar nikla
bas chalta hai roj ye silsila
aur is tarah ek aur din bench pe nikla

Google and Me

When I was in IX or X standard, I always wanted to study in IIT. Naah..Not because, they are such great centres of learning and all that. But, I really loved the IIT campus. I still do and I wish I had learnt there. For me, the IIT campus is one of the few green spaces that are available in Mumbai. And it is always a pleasure to take a walk in the entire IIT campus. I know it was a wrong reason for wanting to be in IIT, but ...

Similarly, after I came into the corporate(or so called corporate) world, I started liking Google. For me, anything related to google, I needed to know about it. I used to spend a lot of time on net and a major portion of the time would be utilised by google and its various other initatives.
And, then I had decided that I would work for Google. All those who have started laughing now can please leave the blog room. And Now.( The same way my teacher used to ask me to get out of the class.)

I mean, I really waanna work at google and not simply coz of the nice package that I would get but also , beacuse of the working conditions too and the fact that they treat employees so well impresses me the most. And the fact that I would be really working motivates me to work at Google :-)

Btw, Some links regarding Google

But having said that, finally I would like to be a employer like Google. Say Amen to that.

Joke Of The Day

Today's Joke Of The Day.

Don Abu Salem has slapped a notice on filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and asked him to destroy the prints of his forthcoming film "Gangster".

Apparently, he is miffed at the title of the film. In his own words, “Mein gangster nahin hoon, the film shows me in a bad light.”. Well, I agree.

ROTFL.

Advani's Rath Yatra

Well, as Mr. Lal Krishna Advani embarks on another of his rath yatras, he might take time and dwell on Kaifi Azmi's words written during 92-93.

"Mujhe maloom hai tumharey naam sey mansoob hain tootey huey sooraj
Shikasta chand, kala aasmaan, curfew-zada rahein
Sulagtey khel ke maidan, roti cheekhti maae'n
Mujhe maaloom hai charo taraf jo ye tabahi hai
Hukumat mein siyasat ke tamashe ki gawahi hai
Tumhein Hindu ki chaahat hai na Muslim se adaavat hai
Tumhara dharm sadiyon se tijarat tha tijarat hai
Mujhe maloom hai lekin tumhe mujrim kahoon kaisey
Adaalat mein tumharey jurm ko sabit karoon kaisey
Tumhari jeib mein khanjar na haaton mein koi bum tha
Tumharey rath pe to Mariyada Purshottam ka parcham tha!!"

Hopefully, we don't get a repeat of what happened in India during the early nineties.

God Bless India!!!!

Just Another Rant

I read the below lines in Chandrachoodan Gopalakrishnan's blog. He had transalted a few lines of Bhaarathi in his post. Loved the lines and hence, I asked him permission to just use the translated verse in my blog and he was kind and gracious enough to let me use them.
First, the lines
Fear not my soul. Fear not
Fear not when the world unites against
Fear not the derisive stares and the looks cold
Fear not the vagrant’s life,
When you’ve lost everything you hold

Fear not my soul. Fear not
Fear not the seductress’s charms
Fear not the venom, nor the burning tongue
Fear not the enemy, taking up arms

Fear not my soul. Fear not.
When the world around you comes crashing down.

After, he gave permission I wondered why not write a few lines about Bhaarati. First heard about Bhaarathi in school and was pretty impressed by a guy who was a nationalist poet. Dont know much about him as such, but a quick search in google brings up the below pages. Do go through them. They offer something that many of us dont know and are pretty ignorant about.

Link 2
Link 3

Link 4

Now, when I think about the history of India, I really feel whether we have been shortchanged by our education system. Why our books don't mention more about such heroes. There might have been such prominent people from every corner of the region but only Gandhi,Nehru dominated our history books. And, the less said about the language books, the better.

Would like to mention Arnab's post in a similar context.
http://greatbong.net/2006/03/19/a-bit-of-irony-perhaps/

Why our books in our school / colleges are ignorant about people who really can make a impact on young minds. Also, teachers rarely try to involve students with the history of the nation. Invariably, a majority of the people are ignorant about the history of their country / literature.

And no, this post is not going to be about our entire education system as such but some thoughts came into my mind which I allowed them to spill over to the blogworld.

I know this post come across like an half-baked cake(similar to the other posts, you say) but then they will appear that way till the time I learn to write properly again :-)

Two Songs Rocking the Charts for me

Ya Ali Reham Ali

Oh..What a rocking song!!!
It is simply because of songs like these that Emraan Hashmi ( of Ape-Sar fame ) has survived in this industry. And if makers are going to gives us such songs only if Emraan is present, then grudgingly I would accept that.
For songs like these, I dont even mind Raj Babbar or even Armaan Kohli. :-)

The other song that is really grovvy is Teri Deewaani by Kailash Kher. Totaly Sufi!!!

Btw, Can we use the song "Ya Ali Reham Ali" to implore god to save us from Emraan ..hmnnn...

Posting the lyrics here just like that. Lyrics courtesy Hindi Lyrics.

ya ali reham ali
ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali
ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh meri zindagi
ishq pe mita doon luta doon
main apani khudi
yaar pe haan luta doon mita doon
main yeh hasti
ya ali reham ali
ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali
ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh meri zindagi

mujhe kuchh pal de purvat ke
faki hampe chahat ke
rahe bechain dil kab tak
milen kuchh pal toh raahat ke
chahat pe ishq pe haa mita doon luta doon
main apani khudi
yaar pe ha luta doon mita doon
main yeh hasti
ya ali reham ali
ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali
ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh meri zindagi

bina tere na ek pal ho na bin tere kabhi kal ho
yeh dil ban jaaye pathhar ka na ismein koi hulchul ho
sanam pe ha ishq pe ha mita doon luta doon
main apani khudi
kasam se ha luta doon mita doon
main yeh hastii
ya ali reham ali
ya ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi
ya ali madad ali
ya ali yeh meri jaan yeh meri zindagi

preet ki lath mohe aaisi laagi
ho gayi main matwaali
bal bal jaaun apane piya ko
ke main jaaun vaari vaari
mohe sudh budh naa rahe tan mann ki
yeh toh jaane duniya saari
bebas aur laachar phiru main
haari main dil haari

tere naam se jee loon
tere naam se marr jaaun
tere naam se jee loon
tere naam se marr jaaun
teri jaan ke sadke mein kuchh aaisa kar jaaun
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani

ishq junoon jab hadh se badh jaaye - 2
hanste hanste aashiq suli chadh jaaye
ishq ka jaadu sar chadhkar bole
khoob laga lo pehre raste rab khole
yahi ishq ki marzi hain
yahi rab ki marzi hain
yahi ishq ki marzi hain
yahi rab ki marzi hain
tere bin jeena kaisa
???
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani

gaaun bajaaun sabko rijhaaun
he ??? se begaani
ke main deewani main deewani
tere naam se jee loon tere naam se marr jaaun
tere jaan ke sadle mein kuchh aaisa kar jaaun
tune kya kar dala marr gayi main mitt gayi main
ho ri ha ha ri ho gayi main
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani
teri deewani deewani...

Alonso rules and Ferrari Rues

Yippeee!!!!

Alonso wins!!

What a breath of fresh air this guy is!! Renault has a swell good backup team and the results are there for everyone to see. This proves that teams with moderate size budgets too can compete at the highest level.
And, I think Kimi is going to play a major role in this season. So, do keep a watch on Kimi..

And as for Ferrari, I think it is time for Schumi to retire from F1 like Sachin needs to do from Cricket. They have been the best ambassodars for the sport and they have given us enough joy on the sporting fields and it would be great if they leave the sporting arena as champion players..

Manchester United Challenges Chelsea

Now, I am really worried!
Manchester United is really catching up with Chelsea. The Reds defeated Bolton while Chelsea drew with the relegation-threatened Birminghan City. While, I agree that a 7-point cushion is enough for Chelsea to cruise home but still, considering the past works of Sir Freggie, I think that United are going to give a good enough scare to Chelsea.
Hope that Robben,Crespo,Drogba,Terry and co win their remaining matches and win the premiership in style.

Bangalore Visit Story - Part II

In Bangalore, we always had interesting experiences with the auto-drivers. I have heard Mumbaikars complaining a hell of a lot about the auto-drivers in Mumbai. But, then they probably never had to encounter the Bangalore species of the same.

We have something called meters in our autos in Mumbai. Yeah, the Bangalore ones also have that but they never are down. I mean, even if the auto is occupied the meter will never be down. They have their own rates and their own logic. Here, if it is beyond midnight the auto will charge double the fare. Fair Enough. In Bangalore, even if it 10:00 am in the morning, he will ask for double the fare( usually they settle for a round figure : 100 if it is within15-20 minutes, 200 if it is within 30-45 minutes. Beyond that, I don't have much experience).

The very first day, we took an auto to the IGATE's office. He said the fare will be around Rs.100. After the morning experience, I didn't try to haggle with him in any language(leave alone Kannada). We told him our address and he said he knew the place but not the company. I said no probs, take us to the place and the rest will be handled by me. He took us to that place(Whitefield). Now, it so happens that IGATE puts Whitefield in their address and nothing else. And the sad part is that IGATE actually is quite far from the real Whitefield and actually near ITPL. So, we get a menancing glare from the auto-driver and a lot of gyaan too. "Saar, you should know the address. Now, you are only in a loss(Well, he charges us 100 bucks more). One should not be so careless...and so on". I was too ashamed, tired and pissed off to argue with him.

We regularly used autos during our stay in Bangalore primarily because the public transportation system sucks in Bangalore. The only good thing that I can think about the public buses is the fact that they provide daily/monthly passes which allow unlimited rides on the city buses which turns out quite cheap. The daily pass was priced at Rs. 25/- which is quite VFM if you are going to use the bus service more than a couple of times during the day. Other than that, nothing much to cheer about the public transportation system in Bangalore.

Other interesting experiences with the auto-drivers would be the one time we were stranded on a deserted highway after the auto broke down. It was quite an uneventful 15-20 minutes spent on the road flashing the mobile phones into the auto's posterior. And the other , when an auto-driver refused to take me to a particular location and I angrily asked him as to why wouldn't he take us there. I was ready for a good fight that day but the auto-driver wasn't and he readily took me to the location and charged me on the meter(What Bliss!!). Another, unique thing about some of the Bangalore autos was that they had Electronic Meter which meant that the fare to be paid was always displayed on the meter and one needn' t go through the fare care which is actually good. Offcourse, it is a different thing that the meter is never down but still....

Apologies for our mistake

Saw Aksar(read endured) yesterday.

Our future generations are never going to forgive us for making a hero out of Emraan Hashmi.
Really, I mean it.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to beg forgiveness from the coming generation for this stupid mistake of ours and would like to point out that I rarely had a hand in making a hero out of an ape. Really, I have never seen an Emran Hashmi film in a theatre, so please remove me from your hate-list.

Sorry..Sorry again...
